History
The DeGarmo Group, Inc., (DGI) was formed in 1996 to synergize the
strengths of its staff consultants.
The focus of our research, product development, and service delivery
is the application of psychological science in human resource (HR)
and employment assessment and selection. We provide our clients
with web-based HR testing services that support their overall
hiring process. To that end, we have created several assessments
of person-job fit using a proprietary research and development
methodology. We also support our clients’ needs for researching
the validity of their hiring practices, as well as providing
training solutions that enhance their general HR functioning.
Since our inception, we have devoted much of our resources to
the development of a line of Fit Index® assessments. The Fit
Index® assessments are designed to measure individual differences
in job applicants’ affective reactions to work (rather than
requisite skills), and to enhance the prediction of voluntary
employee turnover for a variety of jobs including:
- Customer Service,
- TeleSales,
- Collections,
- Teller,
- and Retail Sales.
Further, to complement our structured, web-based Fit Index®
assessments, DGI has developed a series of structured interviews
designed to measure job fit, and to increment predictions of
voluntary turnover.
We believe strongly that HR practices should be firmly grounded
in psychological science. This practice-guided-by-science
orientation requires that our professional services be based
on an active and ongoing research program, as well as adherence
to mainstream scientific and professional standards. An important
way for DGI to maintain this orientation is to conduct credible
research and present research findings in professional journals
and at professional conferences.
We have written several book chapters, reviews and journal
articles which have appeared in publications such as:
- Journal of Applied Psychology,
- Administrative Science Quarterly,
- Organizational Research Methods,
- Human Resource Management Journal,
- and Academy of Management Journal.
We have been invited speakers at a number of regional and
national conferences such as Academy of Management (AMA),
Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP),
Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior
(IOOB), American Psychological Association (APA), and Direct
Marketing Association (DMA).
Articles on our company and Fit Index® systems have appeared
in publications such as:
- IPMA News (The Newsletter of the International Personnel Management Association),
- Teleprofessional Magazine,
- Call Center Magazine,
- Customer Contact World Magazine,
